Earlier this week I wrote about a skirt I was trying to create for spring. The skirt was a six gore with 2 decorative bands on the bottom. I had finished the skirt and was searching for trim to accent the bands.
I visited every fabric store in our area and was about to give up when the idea occurred to me to use ribbon. I brought the skirt with me and went up and down the ribbon aisles. . .
My first idea was to use a white ribbon with black dots, to try to bring out the black in the floral print. But when I laid the white and black ribbon on the fabric it really did not look good.
So with the help of my local fabric department manager, Jenny, we found 2 lavender and lime green ribbons that looked really good on the skirt.
It is important to prewash the ribbons before attaching to any garment-you would not want the ribbon to shrink after it is attached.
Today I washed the trims, sewed them to the skirt then washed and ironed the finished product.
As a treat, my sweetie took me shopping for a shirt to wear with the skirt. I settled on a plain white tee shirt because it is so versatile. Now I have a new outfit for church this week!!
