Tutorial-Continuous Lap

I wanted to share the process I use for creating a continuous lap in a girl's dress.  I use this method because it is sturdy for everyday wear.  This continuous lap will be in a dress with a gathered skirt attached to a yoke.

Once all of your pattern pieces are cut out, cut a piece of fabric approximately 3 x 10 inches.

Fold this piece in half lengthwise and press.

My New Toy-A Dehydrator

A few weeks ago I had a chance to attend a class on dehydrating.  Since we had produced an abundance of peppers and onions in our garden this summer I was very interested in this.

I had my eye on an Excalibur Deydrator and when I learned this was the item featured in the class I knew I wanted to attend.

I quickly became convinced that I had to have one of these and placed my order.

When my dehydrator arrived I was so excited.  I couldn't wait to try it out.  The Excalibur is great.  It has 9 trays which will hold lots of food.  The fan is in the back so the air is blown across the trays from the back to the front.  This keeps the flavors from mingling and it dries the food quicker.

Another item I saw demonstrated at the class I attended

Sunday Phunnies

I received this from a great Marine Corp. friend - it's soooo appropriate.

The Stapler

Having served his time with the Marine Corps, a man became a school teacher and before school started he injured his back. He was required to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body. Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn't even noticeable.

On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school. Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, he opened the window wide and sat down at his desk.

When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he took a stapler and stapled the tie to his chest.

He had no trouble with discipline that year

Sweet 17

Our oldest granddaughter, Lydia, recently celebrated her 17th birthday and her parents surprised her with a day of blessings.

They told Lydia they were taking her out to select her birthday gift and on the way they stopped at a local amusement park.  To her surprise several of her friends were there to meet her and they were all treated to a fun day of putt-putt and go-cart racing.  Then her dad took them all out for lunch.

Lydia was surprised and excited to see her friends and enjoy the time with her.  Little did she suspect that the surprises were not over yet...

Have You Heard?

I know this is old news but it is so amazing I just had to share.

We were watching tv one night when the most amazing thing came on.  It was a show from Great Britain similar to American Idol and this middle aged woman came on the stage.  Simon had the nerve to ask the lady her age and she replied that she was 44.  His look said it all, he was sure she was a waste of his time, but then she started to sing.

Oh, my gosh, Susan Boyle stole the show.  She has become an American Idol without ever appearing on the show.  Her first album is now available and her voice is a wonder to behold.

If you have not heard this lady sing, I invite you to a real blessing as you relax and enjoy her amazing voice.  It is not often that we have a chance to share such a joy with our readers.  Hope you enjoy Ms. Boyle's voice as much as we have.

Winter Warmers

One of the newest items in our store are these Winter Warmers.  Hats and scarves are so popular this year that I thought I would add a few sets to our store.  Afghans are always a great gift idea.

This was the first set I made and I was very pleased with the result.  The yarn is a natural color and variegated  so it combines shades of beige, off white with just a whisper of burgundy.  The scarf is a twirly, wavy pattern which is so cute.

The burgundy flower is mounted to a pin back so it is removable to make

Sunday Phunnies

Finally, a Barbie I can relate to!

At long last, here are some NEW Barbie dolls to coincide with her and OUR aging gracefully. These are a bit more realistic ...

Bifocals Barbie. Comes with her own set of blended-lens fashion frames in six wild colors (half-frames too!), neck chain and large-print editions of Vogue and Martha Stewart Living.

Hot Flash Barbie. Press Barbie's bellybutton and watch her face turn beet red while tiny drops of perspiration appear on her forehead. Comes with hand-held fan and tiny tissues.

Facial Hair Barbie. As Barbie's hormone levels shift, see her whiskers grow. Available with teensy tweezers and magnifying mirror.

Flabby Arms Barbie. Hide Barbie's droopy triceps with these new, roomier-sleeved gowns. Good news on the tummy front, too - muumuus with tummy-support panels are included.

Bunion Barbie. Years of disco dancing in stiletto heels have definitely taken their toll on Barbie's dainty arched feet. Soothe her sores with the pumice stone and plasters, then slip on soft terry mules.

No-More-Wrinkles Barbie. Erase those pesky crow's-feet and lip lines with a tube of Skin Sparkle-Spackle, from Barbie's own line of exclusive age-blasting cosmetics.

Soccer Mom Barbie. All that experience as a cheer-leader is really paying off as Barbie dusts off her old high school megaphone to root for Babs and Ken, Jr. Comes with minivan in robin-egg blue or white, and cooler filled with doughnut holes and fruit punch.

Divorced Barbie. Sells for $199.99. Comes with Ken's house, Ken's car, and Ken's boat.

Post-Menopausal Barbie. This Barbie forgets where she puts things, and cries a lot. She is sick and tired of Ken sitting on the couch watching the tube, clicking through the channels. Comes with Depends and Kleenex. As a bonus this year, the book "Getting In Touch with Your Inner Self" is included.
