Begging A Favor
A robust-looking gentleman ate a large meal at an expensive restaurant
and topped it off with some fine wine, then he summoned the headwaiter.
"Do you recall," he asked pleasantly, "how a year ago, I ate just such a
wonderful meal here and then, because I couldn't pay for it, you had me
thrown into the alley like a beggar?"
"I'm very sorry sir..." began the contrite headwaiter.
"Oh, it's quite all right." said the guest, "but I'm afraid I'll have to
trouble you again..."
Choose Your Cheese
Sean stopped by a sandwich shop one afternoon and placed his order with
the girl at the counter. She rattled off a list of condiments, but he
stopped her when she asked if he wanted white cheese or yellow.
"What's the difference?" Sean asked.
"Hello?" replied the girl, sighing and rolling her eyes. "The COLOR is
different!"
Eating Right
According to a recent article I just read on nutrition, they said eating
right doesn't have to be complicated. Nutritionists say there is a
simple way to tell if you're eating right. Colors. Fill your plates with
bright colors. Greens, reds, yellows.
In fact, I did that this morning. I had an entire bowl of jelly beans.
It was delicious! I never knew eating right could be so easy.

Autumn
According to the news reports last week was the beginning of Autumn. It has been blustery and chilly way up in North Dakota.
The wind has died down today but it is still a bit nippy, a truly beautiful Autumn day.
It appears Autumn is just about over because tomorrow night is expected to go down into the twenties.
At our home in south Mississippi, summer comes on just as quickly. We normally have a couple weeks of gorgeous spring weather and then-BAM-summer comes. The temperature quickly rises from a cool 78-80 to high 80's to 90. Once it goes that high the plants pretty much quit producing veggies and it is time to turn on the AC and hibernate until our 2 weeks of Autumn.
So it seems that Autumn up here is a direct reverse of summer in the deep south. I do enjoy the Autumn down there, even if it is only 2 weeks long.
Now I can say, I did enjoy our 2 weeks of Autumn up here. How long till the first snow? Time will tell.

The Quickest Trip
We had planned to visit Mount Rushmore over the Labor Day weekend but Hurricane Isaac changed our plans. Since it passed right over our home we thought it would be a good idea to check it out for damage.
We left work Thursday about 5PM and drove to Sioux Falls, SD arriving around 2:30AM. We got up about 6 and headed for our son's home in Memphis, TN arriving around 10PM. Saturday morning we got up at 5:00 and by 5:30 were on the road for south MS.
About noon we got to Gulfport/Diamondhead and checked things out. Our house survived with minor damage so we headed back to Memphis-another 6 hours on the road. We arrived around 8PM, spent the night and left at 7:30 AM.
We spent Sunday night in Owatona, MN and drove into Minot at 5PM Monday.
In total we were out of our car for 30 hours over this long weekend. We were so very glad to arrive home and rest for awhile before we returned to work Turesday.
The following week was a long, weary week but we took the next Saturday completely off and relaxed. It was such a nice day and we spent the whole day taking it easy.
We are both hoping we never have to make such a rushed trip again. Not our idea of a swell time but it was good to know everything was fine on the home front.

Final Peace Garden Photos
On the way to the Peace Garden we passed the geographical center of North America and just had to stop for a photo.
These photos are from the wildlife museum at the Peace Garden. This is part of the baleen filtering system in the mouth of a whale.
This quilt was created by the wives of the delegates of the Manitoba Conservation District.
The museum was small but quite interesting.
This iron is from the Twin Towers destroyed during 911.
That concludes our visit to the Peace Garden. I hope you enjoyed our photos.

The Quilt Show
These are the second half of the photos from the quilt show at the International Peace Garden.
This last quilt was the favorite of most of our group. It is hard to tell from the photo but the quilt had a 3 dimensional effect. There are a lot of talented people in this quilt group and I thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Peace Garden Quilt Show
The weekend we visited the Peace Garden they were having a quilt show. I could have spent hours and hours looking at the quilts but the remainder of our group wanted a quick look only. So I snapped my photos quickly.
This is about half of the lovely quilts that were on display. I will show the remainder in a couple days.

Sunday Phunnies
Universal Time
A customer calls the round-the-clock tech support hotline to ask what
hours the call center is open.
"The number you dialed is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week," says
the technician who answers the call.
Customer asks, "Is that Eastern or Pacific time?"
A Better Excuse
Toby came into the office an hour late for the third time in one week
and found his boss waiting for him. "What's the story this time, Toby?"
his boss asked sarcastically. "Let's hear a good excuse for a change."
Toby sighed, "everything went wrong this morning. My wife decided to
drive me to the harbor. She got ready in ten minutes, but then the ferry
didn't turn up."
"Rather than let you down, I swam across the river, ran over the
mountain, borrowed a bicycle and cycled the 20 miles through the field
to this office. "
"You'll have to do better than that, Toby," said his boss, disappointed.
"No woman can be ready in ten minutes."
Long Speech
A man was giving a speech at his lodge meeting. He got a bit carried
away and talked for over two hours.
Finally, he realized what he was doing. "I'm sorry I talked so long," he
said. "I left my watch at home."
A voice from the back of the room said, "There's a calendar right behind
you."

Chapel at the Peace Garden
This is the Chapel at the International Peace Garden.
The chapel is a very peaceful place in the Peace Garden and the walls are most interesting. Everyone from Abraham Lincoln to Ghandi is quoted there. Truly a lovely place.
The walls are lined with plaques of famous quotations.
This is the podium in the center of the chapel.
