Remember the Flintstones Part 2

Today I worked on the Pebbles costume.  I started with the bloomers because I knew they would take less time than the top.  This is the leg of the bloomers-notice there is no ruffle.

Next came the challenging part-the top.  I modified a slip pattern to make it fuller and shorter.  My customer wanted black triangles appliqued onto the green top.  I cut out the top and a group of small triangles. .
I use Steam-A-Seam when applying appliques.

Steam-A-Seam is a webbing with a sticky surface on both sides.  You peel back the paper from one side of the Steam-A-Seam and press it on the applique.

Then you can peel the paper from the other side of the Steam-A-Seam and place the applique on the fabric.  If you don't like the way it looks you can simply lift the applique and move it to wherever you like.

Once you are satisfied with the layout, press the appliques.  This now becomes a permanent bond.  The next step is to apply a tear away stabilizer to the back of the appliques.  I apply a spray adhesive to the stabilizer and place it on the wrong side of the fabric under the applique.  Now it is ready to be stitched using wide zig-zag stitches very close together.

This shows the wrong side of the fabric with the stabilizer still in place after all stitching has been done.  Now all you have to do is tear away all the white and your appliques are finished.
