Devil's Tower

While in Montana we took a very long side trip to Devil's Tower.  This landmark is about an hour north of Sundance but the scenery is rather bleak and the road a bit rough-hence the very long drive.  However, it was definitely worth it.

I kept thinking, "Surely it can't be that far away."  But it was!

Look familiar?  This location was used in the filming of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

Turn around and look across the street and this is the gorgeous site awaiting you.

Devil's Tower was the first official national monument established by Theodore Roosevelt.

It was a long drive but after seeing the magnificence of this area, I am very glad we took the time to make the drive.
